PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC)
The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) prepares you to become a fully qualified Open Water Scuba Instructor. You will learn how to teach, evaluate, organise courses, and manage students safely across all entry-level training.
This is intensive professional training. The focus moves from demonstrating skills to delivering structured education, adapting to different students, and maintaining standards under pressure.
Who this course suits
Ideal for:
• Assistant Instructors progressing to full Instructor
• Divemasters entering professional teaching
• Dive professionals seeking a global teaching qualification
• Those committed to working in the dive industry
Prerequisites
You must:
• Be a PADI Assistant Instructor or Divemaster completing the full IDC
• Be at least 18 years old
• Have current Emergency First Response training (within 24 months)
• Have a minimum of 60 logged dives to start and 100 to attend the Instructor Examination
• Meet medical fitness requirements

The IDC combines workshops, presentations, and in-water teaching practice.

Confined water teaching
Practise skill demonstrations, student correction, and problem solving.
Open water teaching
Conduct full training dives managing students and safety.
Standards & risk management
Develop course organisation, control, and decision making.
Instructor Examination preparation
Daily coaching and mock exams preparing you for the PADI Instructor Examination.

On completion and passing the Instructor Examination you will:

We run courses most weeks throughout the summer season across our UK and overseas locations, allowing us to offer flexible scheduling to suit individual availability wherever possible.
