The PADI Boat Diver Speciality teaches you how to dive safely, comfortably, and efficiently from different types of dive boats.
Boat diving is often the gateway to the best dive sites, but it introduces new considerations such as entries, exits, equipment handling, and surface procedures. This course builds confidence so you know exactly what to do before, during, and after every boat dive.
You’ll learn how to work with the crew, prepare your kit in limited space, and manage conditions like current, waves, and drift.
Who this course suits
Ideal for:
• Newly qualified divers starting boat diving
• Holiday divers wanting confidence on busy dive boats
• Divers preparing for liveaboards or overseas trips
• Anyone uncomfortable with entries or exits from boats
• Divers wanting smoother, more relaxed dive days
Prerequisites
You must:
• Be a certified Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
• Meet standard medical and fitness requirements
Minimum age: 10 years old
How the course works
The course combines briefing-based learning with practical dives from a boat.
Dive procedures
Learn boat etiquette, kit setup in confined spaces, entry and exit techniques, and how dives are organised by the skipper and crew.
Practical dives
You will complete training dives focusing on different entries, exits, surface management, and safe interaction with other divers.
Situational awareness
Understand drift procedures, delayed SMB use, current awareness, and recall signals.
